It’s the season when everyone seems to be overindulging a little. In all the holiday treats, in the libations, even in their spending when the sales look too good to be true. I hate that bloated, gluttonous feeling. And yet, it occurred to me that there are sometimes when a little overindulgence is ok.
Like it’s ok to overindulge in hugging your kids tight and letting them know how much they mean to you every chance you get, because they won’t let you do that forever.
It’s ok to read too much and full your mind with knowledge. Or fantasy. Or humor. Or horror. Or just a quiet escape when you have those few moments to yourself.
It’s ok to overindulge by letting the people in your life know how much they mean to you at every opportunity, because you never know if that time you see them might be the last.
It’s ok to overindulge by watching a movie marathon. Maybe even if it’s naked in bed with a bucket of popcorn. Preferably not alone.
It’s ok to overindulge by surrounding yourself with the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of your favorite place on Earth.
It’s ok to overindulge in by sitting back on your couch, closing your eyes, and taking a deep breath. Every single day.
And it’s ok to overindulge by just saying NO. To everyone and everything. You don’t get the chance to do that often, but sometimes, it’s all just too much. So you get to play that card. So do it when you need to…and enjoy it.
